SimCity™: Complete Edition App Reviews

Update did more harm than good

The most recent update produced flaws in the game that did not exist prior to the update. I can no longer upgrade medium density streets to high density streets or medium density avenues to high density avenues, some important buildings suddenly cannot be used, and the game now lags a little. Despite some minor flaws, I very much enjoyed the game before the update; now I’m just annoyed.

DONT DOWNLOAD

This game should have never been released yet … Its full of bugs the Beta error is annoying and they cant seem to figuer out how to fix it yet … Honestly we should all DEMAND full refunds .

Bad Roads

Bought the full version of the game around Feb 2015 and after i log in and start playing i find that the roads cannot upgrade past medium and that high density roads are not even available…shows the roads to say NOT IN BETA. Don’t have BETA i have the full price $$$$ version…so some one dropped the ball on this one. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!

I’m a newby & find it fun and challenging.

I’ve been playing Sim City 4, and this is a fun upgrade in terms of graphics - it’s less dated. I’m sure that expert city manager/planners can work with the tools and options in this game to actually make complex decisions and build unbelievable regions, but I’m not there yet. Therefore for those players, the other reviews are probably more helpful. I’m enjoying exploring and building, solving problems etc.. It’s better than playing the BuildIt app, and It’s quite challenging. I have a 2014 MacBook Pro and it runs fine so far…no glitches after a week of playing.

Not your pappys SimCity

I have been a SimCity player ever since the beginning. I bought the fist edition way back in 1991 and have been hooked ever since. When SimCity 2000 came out, it blew my mind. It took me a while to get into the new style of play, and while I just wanted to plop and go, and make a HUGE city I had to actually think about it. Soon I was addicted to the new system. SimCity 3000 came out on my birthday and it took it to another level. SimCity 4 added a LOT to it and made it even better. There was one thing missing from all these previous titles though; a smooth visual interface that lets you get INTO your city and see it through your imaginary friends eyes. SimCity 5 let’s you do just that. Yes, the drawback is the limited city size. But when you look at product per tile it exceeds the first and second generations by a lot. It just requires more tile for developments. My rating for this version is very high due to the involvement you get aside from growth and population. Now you have to think about placement, traffic etc. It’s like a thousand minigames in one. And once you reach the ability to build futuristic buildings it takes on a completely different life. I feel like a lot of these naysayers haven’t really played through the enitre game. Once you max out your boundaries you have to do what all modern cities have to do at some point, build up and not out. With the future pack you can build a huge city, but just like cities like Singapore and Tokyo growing out is no longer an option, so building towards the sky is the way to go.

Beautiful game but low on replayability

After having played this game for a few months, I have to say it’s not that replayable. There are only a few maps and many of the locations are the same, just a big piece of flat land. The most interesting locations are in the Granite Lake maps, but unfortunately it’s the only one with so many interesting locations. Once you figure out how to solve the traffic issue, the game gets pretty boring. — I have been playing SimCity since its very first version. This is by far the most beautiful SimCity ever released, both in terms of graphics and music. I understand that it’s more “simplified” and that’s fine as it was starting to get too complicated for me. My only gripe is that I don’t understand why the maximum resolution is so low. It doesn’t look as great as it could on my 27” iMac. If you want a complex game where you micro-manage everything, this is not for you. But if you want a streamlined, beauitful game, definitely get it. — Update: Since the update, I have noticed more and more bugs. I am not sure if they already exist in the previous version or not but I noticed them recently. I hope they get fixed soon so the game is more playable.

I just download it and could not be opened!

Needs optimization for Macs

I was excited to see that Simcity for Mac had its own port from the really bad EA version of the game. I had hopes that this would be a more optimized and playable version of the game. Unfortunatly I just paid $30 for a game that was essentially the same as my EA copy without any multiplayer features too. I just wish they took the time to actually do a well ported version of the game. I have a 15’ Retina Macbook pro and I even struggle to play it at medium settings at a 1200x800 resolution. I know the computer isnt getting pushed to its fullpotentiall cause at any given time during the games operation my cpu is anywhere from 70-80% idle. I know these computers are capable of running this game at much higher settings with a more consistent framerate. Especially at that resolution. Hopefully with the updates that they push out with this game, it will become more playable through optimizations Aspyr. As for now though my $30 investment into the game turned into a regret, especially considering I already owned the game from EA. For now id say stay away until they push out more updates that target performance. Its really sad considering its such a great game.

Horrible Graphics!

Do NOT purchase this stupid game. I am very disappointed in the graphics. It feels like I am playing a game in 1994! Very upsetting.

Crashes too much

after a long session building up a region I get a memory error. I dont know how that is possible with 16 gb on a 6 month old imac retina. its very frustrating if one forgets to save

Not Responding? Won’t Open

Great game. Played before. However it won’t open after install. I have never had problems with Aspyr Media.. Until now. Waste of moeny if they don’t fix this soon. Support is hard to deal with and i have tried nearly everything from redownloading to running through the terminal. What a wast of $40. Please fix and I will re-review.

needs option for multiplayer on macs

they should make an option for multiplayer mode on macs

Really Disappointing

It’s 2015, and this game looks as if it were released in 1999. There is no reason for a game who’s name is a portmanteau of “Simulation” to be a cartoon with no earnest attempt at versimillitude. SimCity 4000, and even 3000, were far more realistic.

Multiplayer

Wonderful game, I have always loved sim city, however, it needs to have a muliplayer function. PLEASE ADD!

Crashed on the tutorial.

Aspyr games are conceptually interesting. I’m a fan or Civ V all the way up to Beyond Earth. But the first time I opened SIMCITY it locked up during the instructional tutorial at the point where it was unable to recognize my click on the water button. I will try again but this is disappointing.

NO MULTIPLAYER

Sooo disappointed that this game does not have multiplayer functionality for Mac. I have 16gb of ram and an i7 with a 512gb card and still stuttering and lagging on high settings. This is a disappointing purchase for sure

The best Sim City game yet!

I don’t know why so many people don’t like this game or why so many people are having problems with it crashing. I have owned this game for a while now and it never crashed once. Maybe their computer is too old or the operating system is too old. I have played all Sim City games and the first one was kinda fun but was horrible to todays standards and the graphics were extremely blocky. Sim City 2000 was a huge improvement and I played that game so much when I was growing up. I will be honest I never played Sim city 3000 but, watched a friend play it and he did not enjoy it at all. He prefered Sim City 2000. When I bought Sim City 4 I thought that game was amazing! the graphics were much better and the game play was much better and for a while I played it just about every day. Now Sim City Complete Eddition is by far the best, even though my version of Sim City 4 won’t work on my new computer and I kinda miss it. It is fairly easy to play but, can get a little complicated at times. My favororite part is building the megatowers. Building the VU Tower and taking normal sims and converting them into criminals is fun. Watching the VU Mobile go by and creating chaos is kinda fun too. I hope this review is helpful for most people

Fun but turn off Auto-Save First

Installs and works great IF your Mac meets minimum requirements. But its not perfect, even though its super addictive. Best advice for newbies: Turn off Auto-Save before you start playing! Otherwise youll end up auto-saving mistakes. Limitations are everywhere and itll take awhile to figure out their nuances. Examples: Many buildings can only face in one direction, so youll need to plan ahead to make sure the front is facing the way you visualized before you plant it and have already spent your Simoleans. Ensure that building add-on "modules" will fit... dont plant too close to a hill or the edge or youll have no room for the add-ons later. Youll figure it out, but TURN OFF AUTO-SAVE. Other weirdness thatll drive you nuts: The Sims themselves are quite stupid; if theres a fire, the firetruck will wait in traffic to get to it. Warning messages arent always right. For example, if you were buying power from another city, and later build your own power plant, you dont need power from the first city anymore. The warning message just says youre gonna run out of power soon since youre not buying it now. The multi-city view is Asphyxs biggest flaw... names of other cities are cut off, the zoom is wonky, and not every tradable resource is viewable; you can buy power, water, and sewage treatment, but you cant buy services like firetrucks, cops, or ambulances. So you have to toggle to the other city and sell it. Single player game shouldnt have these blocks. It is super fun, however, and I recommend it to OCD landscaping addicts everywhere. But be prepared for the problems because they will drive some people more crazy than others.

Can not even open. WASTE MY MONEY

Cann’t even open it after downloaded, each time an erroe sign will pop up…..I thought it was my macbook’s problem so I tried my another Macbook which is a 15’’ latest model Macbook pro with the newlest system, then same peoblem occurred. WHAT A WASTE , absolutley the worst game I puchased

Is there a mod. update?

Is there any way we can update this game so that we can install mods on this app? By the way, nice game. :)
