SimCity™: Complete Edition App Reviews

Fun game, but significant limitations

The game is fun, but the map size is really small. If you are accustomed to earlier sim city games, be prepared for a map that is at most something like 10% of the area of a large sim city 4 map. That being said, the gameplay is much better than SC4, and this version comes with lots of expansions (primarily Cities of Tomorrow) that relaly make the game much more enjoyable. The port is not too well optimized. My computer isn’t a monster, but the game bogs down a bit when there is no reason for it. Graphics are pretty good, should be decent on any decent graphics card (my Radeon 4870 and 5870 both were fine). Loading cities actually takes a fair bit of time, shouldn’t be so slow considering that I’m loading off an SSD, but it’s not intolerable.

SIMS

Its ok. I wish we could have the online version too, but it works. Overall its ok but it would be nice to trade with other people. guess thats what the online portion is for.

Fun, but crashing/restarting my computer

Game will occasionally restart my computer. Not crash program, completely restart my computer. I’d love to keep playing, but it’s sort of difficult to do that when I’m having to continually restart the program.

Great game…when it does’t crash repeatedly.

Gameplay is great….when the application will actually open and stay open. Prior to writing this review, i tried unsuccessfully to play the game. After the 5th consecutive crash, I gave up. Usually, it lets me play to 20 or 30 minutes before it crashes. I’ve loved the SimCity games since the original and was looking forward to playing the complete version on my Mac, but it looks like its a lemon.

Fun

It’s a fun game the only downfall I’ve seen is it’s single player only. There’s no option to get neighbors or visit others/play with others.

Crashing

The game it’s self is a blast when it is not crashing on me. Buyers beware, the game seams to have somthing wrong with it and will crash on you and the only way to fix it is to restart you computer.

Immediate Crash when Launching Game

Just purchased the game from the MacApp Store and when I tried to launch the game it immediately crashed. I have tried 7 different times. Restarted my computer and tried again. Each attempt results in the SimCity: Competle Edition crashing. I am very disapptointed. I have logged a ticket with ASPYR, which appears to be the company through with SimCity: Complete Edition is offered on the MacApp Store. I should note that I am currently in the macOS beta program, and this may be the cause of the crash. Though if that is in fact the cuase, it is a bug which will need to be fixed very soon. I will review the next edition of this software if I can get it to operate. Otherwise I will seek a refund.

Lots of Fun

This game is not like th old versions due to the fact that you are operating in a smaller city size. What you need to realize though is that each of your smaller cities can add something to all the other ones you create in the region, acting like a large country almost. One city may specialize in casinos and another in ore and raw materials, each contributing to the overall happiness and success of the region.

????

I updated my game on my MacBook. Now when I try to go back to my cities I get a pop up window thanking me for playing SimCity Beta. I have only play a small amount of the content of the game. It gives me a button to the Main Menu. I can’t get into my city. I can see behind the pop up window. What’s going on?

Terribly conceptualized and supported game

I bought this game for the first time nearly two years ago. However, many of the things about the first version of the game is untenable. I purchased the second version in good faith, assuming they had improved the game. But, alas, I was completely disappointed. Mayors still cannot outright delete cities, rectify a misplacement of an item without deleting it for a complete loss of the fee paid for it, and often times the game crashes when trading with neighbor cities, as resources disappear or get “stuck at the border,” rendering that component of the game completely useless and unreliable. I will be, for the second time, seeking a full refund, and will never buy another new Maxis game.

Update puts me in beta

I recently purchased this game and was enjoying it, still learning how to play with regions. However, with the last update the game now acts as if I’m playing the beta. I no longer have access to many of the game features.

Very limited content

It started out normal then it switched to “beta” and now all the content that I paid for is unavailable. I’m in the process of trying to figure out how to get a refund. A complete rip off. Do not download this game unless they’ve fixed it!!

Could be a great game..

This game still has too many bugs. I keep getting severe graphic artifacts drawn on the screen that prevent me from fully enjoying a game. I also can’t build a town larger than 40,000 people before the game bogs down to an unplayable state. I have tried to play the game several times but depending on the map, you get problems that render the game unuseable.

More strategy but a few glitches

UPDATE I am modifying my origninal view and changed the rating due to the new update. Aspyr! you just destroyed this game with your terrible update. Do you not test your updates before implementing them. Significant lag in game, functionality is lost…i.e. says not available in Beta. The update was supposed to fix the game which had some flaws already but I was willing to put up with because I enjoyed the game. Now, you ruined the game..IT IS CURRENTLY UNPLAYABLE. Fix immediately or you will lose customers and your reputation. ___

bugs in the update but they are fixable

After installing the update my game went to Beta mode. I contacted Aspyr tech support and they directed me to og in and delete a specific file. My game now workds well! Great and helpful Tech support.

Not Well Thought Out

The game is too limiting. It doesn’t allow for creativity.

Good Game - Buggy Though

Good Game Overall, but there is an annoying memory bug that happens ALOT (I have a Mac Pro with 64 GB Ram… I doubt it is a computer/ hardware problem).

update gone wrong

The update killed my game - I now have cities that can not use things because it comes up with a not in BETA error. Do not down load this update, I did not even know what had happend - it downloaded its self. In hinsight I wish I did not down load this game via the app store.

Wish I bought the Windows version

I am exptremely disappointed with the Aspyr version of Sim City Complete Edition. It lacks the public play ability the Windows version has. It seems that this missing part precludes the fact that this version of Sim City was made specifically for public play. This is my first Sim City game. I will only buy the Windows version of any other Sim City titles I may be interested in. I may buy the Windows version of this game when I want to play publicly, if that’s still possible now with the demise of Maxis. Since this is my first Sim City game I now see why there are negative comments about city size being too small. They’re thinking of the old titles of big single cities while this game is more of a multiple city game where you want to play multiple cities, or play publicly with others playing other cities that cooperate. I find that I’ll have to play all 16 cities in a big region to fit all of the different important technical HQ and Division buildings. I do have to agree that city sites are too small. Aspyr technical support is rather pathetic. The 1.01 update created some serious problems, obviously it was poorly beta tested before release. One tech helped me solve one problem but in doing so created a new problem for me. When I tried to contact AspyrJason again via chat I saw him enter and then leave, rather rude. Another, AspyrLucy, was much better about staying in contact via e-mail even after I had to restart my iMac. Unfortunately she had me download and install it again only to find that didn’t solve my problem. Lucy suggested to hide the Library files again that Jason had me show so I could delete a plist file. I sent Lucy a reply that that fixed my street upgrade problem yet several days later she sent me a clueless reply to an earlier e-mail telling me she didn’t know how to fix the medium street upgrade problem and that I had to bulldoze them before making high density streets from scratch, a big waste of Simuleons. After these problems I will never buy another Aspyt title and any other Sim City games I’ll buy the Windows version. I’ve so wanted to find good games to play on my iMac yet can’t seem to find them. I’ll stick to buying Windows versions of games, I find I use the Windows mouse and keyboard with the games ported over from the Windows world. How idiotic is it to have an Alt-W command on a Mac keyboard? Yet that is what SimCity Complete has in it’s instructions.

Update seems to have introduced laggy graphics?

I didn’t play this game a lot, but it was fun before the update. There was this one annoying bug with the maglev station/tracks (where a track is layed when you wanted a station, and the track is unbulldozable). I don’t know if this bug is still there in this update, but the video frame rate has tanked. It can’t render the big cities fast enough, and is not as enjoyable.
